Summary: The origins of the Sacred Heart Association, its spiritual basis, advantages, and religious festivities are detailed. The second part of the document sets out the statutes of the organization, including the obligations of the members, rules for admission and meetings, and administrative issues.
Historical Notes: The religious rituals of the Corazón de Jesus from France were widely adopted after their arrival in 1867. In Colombia the municipalities and cities adopted the Catholic symbol as their guardian in 1891. This process of national commitment to the Corazón de Jesus devotion was not free from friction between the Liberal and the Conservative parties who constantly debated the divine origin of the authority. The Liberals were historically opposed to the intrusions of the Catholic Church in the politics of the nation. Henríques de Hernández, Cecilia 2010 El Sagrado Corazón en la Historia de Colombia. Revista de La Universidad Nacional 22:80-8.
Donor Notes: The statutes of a leading Catholic devotional group recently established in South America. - J.L.H.
