Summary: This manual details the statutes for the formation and operation of the Bank of Tolima as a private corporation according to national legal procedures for the creation of banks and financial institutions.
Historical Notes: The development of banks and financial institutions lagged in Colombia. It was not until 1870 that the banking sector began to develop: by 1881 there were forty-two banks in the country. These institutions were short-lived, however, since the National Bank monopolized the profitable banking activities and thus forced one-third of these organizations to close by 1887.
