Summary: José María Chaves, a functionary of the Bogotá mint, accuses the Judges of the Tribunal of Cundinamarca of irregular procedures in the investigation of a robbery of Nueva Granada’s mint in Bogotá. Chaves argues that the investigation focused on searching only lower-class workers’ homes. He regards it as suspicious that those with administrative functions, particularly the director of the mint, were excluded from the search.
Historical Notes: The first Nueva Granada mint was founded in Bogotá in 1620. At the time of the robbery the mint was run by government employees. Davis, Robert 1993 Casa de Moneda. In Historical Dictionary of Colombia. Pp. 121. Metuchen: The Scarecrow Press, Inc.
