Summary: The author of this pamphlet, a Colombian citizen, asks the government to clarify the matter of treasury bonds that were apparently counterfeited. The bonds were in circulation and causing problems for those who could not recognize if they were legitimate or not. The author offered a list of the bonds with their serial number and their value. This information is being presented by the author to the Colombia senate in charge of the investigation.
Historical Notes: Since the inception of Nueva Granada, its government struggled to manage its revenues in a way that allowed the nation to cover its internal and external debt obligations. During the 1850s the state created a number of financial mechanisms aimed at enticing more investors to “buy” the internal debt through bonds. In a bid to respond to its urgent need for cash and to maintain public order within the nation, the government floated bonds to manage the public debt.
