Summary: Here the members of La Compañía de Colombia, an association of businessmen involved with the exploitation of quinine, denounce the illegal trade in this product extracted from land that, according to La Compañía, belonged to them. The pamphlet includes the documents that support their claim.
Historical Notes: The production of quinine centered in Tolima and Cundinamarca in the 1850s. However, as the tobacco prices declined, Santander began to produce quinine as well. The value of quinine exports grew from 3% in the 1860’s to 32% in 1881. Davis, Robert 1993 Quinine In Historical Dictionary of Colombia. Pp. 420. Metuchen, NJ: The Scarecrow Press.
