Historical Notes: The Colegio Militar, created in 1847 by General Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera, was the school where the first Colombian civil engineers studied. Students dedicated three years to their instruction in three subjects: algebra, geometry and calculus. Lino de Pombo, eminent engineer and Colombian diplomat, consolidated the importance of mathematics in the history of the engineering sciences in 19th-century Colombia.
