Summary: In this poem, an anonymous author calls for freeing Liberal prisoners of the Civil War held by President Mariano Ospina's forces. It is signed from a Bogotá prison.
Historical Notes: This document comes from the 1860-1862 Civil War. At time of writing, the Liberal forces, controlled by Tomás C. Mosquera, president from July 18-1861-February 4, 1863, had largely won, but fighting continued in some regions. This war helped drive the deep and lasting divide between Liberals and Conservatives. Donor Notes: Dated 28 de [April] de 1861, but probably May/June 1861. Extremely flowery verse calling for the freeing of the Liberals imprisoned by Conservative (Mariano Ospina) regime in various parts of Bogotá by General T.C de Mosquera & his Liberal Army... - J.L.H.
