Summary: A two-part sermon devoted to Santa Rosa de Lima, originally preached in August 1851 in the cathedral of Bogota, calling all Granadinos to unite.
Historical Notes: "Caholicism emerged as a central forcé in building a common identity for Colombians during the formative years of the nineteenth century and well into the twentieth. Catholicism unified a state that was trying to construct a nation" [Michael LaRosa and Germán Mejía, Colombia: A Concise Contemporary History (Lanham: Rowman and Littlefield, 2012), p. 63]. Colombians gathered to praise their saints or virgins, and this contributed to creat a sense of belonging. Sermons, and novenas were particularly central in this process.
Donor Notes: Possibly a reprint, this sermon honoring Sta Rosa of Lima is by an articulate preacher of great fame. - J.L.H.
