Summary: An address to the Colombian people in which the Minister of the Interior explains all the efforts the government has made to pacify the country. He highlights that the most problematic regions are those of Tolima, Antioquia, Boyacá, Cundinamarca, and Llanos Orientales, but that the government has taken every measure to correct their situation.
Historical Notes: Between 1948 and 1968, Colombia experienced one of the most traumatic periods of its history, known as La Violencia. During this two-decade period, different kinds of conflicts outburst due to a weak government, political and religious factionalism. (See for example, Ricardo Arias Trujillo, Historia de Colombia contemporánea,1920-2010. Bogotá, Universidad de los Andes, 2011.) This adress by Luis Ignacio Andrade is a valuable source to understanding the different measures that the Colombian government took in the midst of probably the worst political and social crisis in the history of the country.
Donor Notes: The interior minister of Colombia explaining the hard line against Liberal rebellion in eastern Colombia during 1952. A radio address to the nation. - J.L.H.
