Summary: This document is a critique of the alleged disregard of the Liberal government of the Cundinamarca Province for the role of the Catholic faith in the nation’s politics and education. The author cites measures that promoted secular education and challenged the power of the Catholic Church over the school system. Possibly written by Sergio Arboleda?
Historical Notes: In 1870 the central government initiated reforms to create a public education system throughout Colombia. The three central features of this reform were: to establish free and obligatory elementary, middle, and high schools; to institute secular education; and to create an education system which would promote the liberal ideas of the government.
