Summary: Leoncio Ferrer published this pamphlet in defense of his family who were accused of using political favors to gain economic advantages from the Atrato Society. He rejects that their political affiliation has any relation to the family’s wealth, and argues that they are part of an economic elite resulting from their hard work. The document details a fight between Ferrer and two other individuals from the Quibdó commercial elite.
Historical Notes: The department of Chocó is rich on mineral such as gold, silver, and platinum, as well as tropical products and depends on the Atrato and San Juán Rivers for transportation and commerce. Both rivers connect the Andean mountains with the Pacific Ocean which make them critical for the economy of the department. Davis, Robert 1977 Chocó In Historical Dictionary of Colombia. Pp. 81. Metuchen, NJ: The Scarecrow Press.
Donor Notes: Answers a pamphlet published in Quibdó (Chocó), in which the Ferrer family in Chocó are accused of being a network controlling much of the Atrato, by revealing the networks of the Galindo, Posso and Lozano families. - J.L.H.
