Summary: Mariano Ospina Rodríguez, Minister of the Interior and Pedro Herrán, President of Colombia present the decrees for public education in Colombian universities. The document describes their administrative organization and curriculum.
Historical Notes: After the Colombian independence in 1819, the government began to consider creating public universities. Francisco de Paula Santander established the Universidad Central de la República in 1830. However, graduate education was monopolized by the church or political and economic elites with the establishment of federal, radical local and national governments. Private education replaced the public university until 1867 when Universidad Nacional was created. Colombia, Universidad Nacional de 2014 Reseña Histórica. Bogotá: Universidad Nacional.
