Summary: President Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera and the War Secretary, Joaquín Barriga, provide a detailed budget for the War Department during the fiscal year from 1846-1847. The budget includes administrative expenses, military salaries and armament expenditures.
Historical Notes: In 1839 General Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera organized the first military school in Colombia with the goal of producing a professional army. However, due to the constant internal violent conflicts and the immersion of high ranking officers in politics, Mosquera’s program did not advance effectively. A new military school was created in 1886 though its operation was interrupted by the civil war in 1899. Colombia, Ejército Nacional 2008 Independencia, la Gran Colombia y la República (1819 - 1903).
