Summary: In this pamphlet two inspectors from the central government provide a detailed account of the Samacá, Boyacá foundry and mining area, previously owned by a corporation that sold it to the state. It reports on the kinds of minerals available for exploitation, lists items of machinery and their physical state, and reviews the fiscal situation of the foundry and the mines.
Historical Notes: As part of the political period called the Regeneration the Conservative party came to power and attempted to reverse liberal reforms enacted during approximately thirty years of Liberal rule. Conservative President Rafael Núñez (1880-1884;1886-1892), pressed for economic reforms regarding foreign trade and the exploitation of resources by focusing on protectionist measures.
