Summary: Presbyter Manuel María Ochoa provides in this manual a set of instructions for preventing a cholera outbreak. He includes a description of the disease’s symptoms and the recommended treatment as well as for a variety of common illnesses.
Historical Notes: Between 1840 and 1862 there was a cholera pandemic. During the Gold Rush the disease spread from New York to Nueva Granada through Panamá’s ports. In Cartagena and Barranquilla cholera resulted in the death of about 20,000 people, with lower numbers in the Andean region.
