Summary: The General Inspector of Instrucción Pública of the Department of Cundinamarca here presents a detailed report concerning the department’s normal schools and their teacher training schools (escuelas anexas), as well as elementary and high schools. The report offers details such as the furniture and schools supplies needed to run the schools. Finally, the inspector includes notes on the individual schools in each of the towns and their condition.
Historical Notes: In 1870 the central government initiated reforms to create a public education system throughout Colombia. The three central features of this reform were: to establish free and obligatory elementary, middle, and high schools; to institute secular education; and to create an education system which would promote the liberal ideas of the government.
