Historical Notes: Served as commander of Spanish forces and president-governor of Quito, Following his surrender at the Battle of Pichincha on May 24, 1822, Aymerich signed capitulations granting honorable terms to the royalist forces, allowing him to depart Quito with his family under military honors.[3] In late July 1822, he traveled via the port of Guayaquil to Panama and onward to Havana, Cuba, where he settled in exile. https://grokipedia.com/page/melchior_aymerich Following his defeat at Pichincha by Antonio José de Sucre and the signing of the capitulation, he and his family travelled, lodged, and ate at their own expense, no money, food or lodging being provided them by the Republic of Colombia. He narrates that his trek has been from Quito to Guayaquil, Guayaquil to Panama, and soon to Havana. In Panama he says that he has been the guest of the commandant of the Isthmus, colonel Jose Maria Carreño, and he thanks the colonel and his family for their generosity and help.
