Summary: A reproduction in Spanish and French of the 18 articles that comprise the loan contract between the Department of Antioquia and the French bank. Includes comments in Spanish by the Colombian representative Jorge Rodríguez.
Historical Notes: After the Latin American wars for Independence during the first two decades of the nineteenth century, the new republics lacked the monetary resources to become modern, industrialized nations, largely, due to the many military conflicts in the region. Colombia was not the exception, which is why the new independent countries had to request loans to wealthy nations such as France and England. This pamphlet evinces this process.
Donor Notes: The dual text, in French and Spanish, of the loan contract negotiated in Paris in October, 1912 between the Antioquia Dept. and the French banking firm, Le Credit Financier et Industriel de Paris, for 12,500,000 Fr Francs. This money was to support the Antioquia Railroad. - J.L.H.
