Summary: A series of letters between several Colombian and Venezuelan diplomatic officials, in which they tried to set the limits of the two republics in a pacific manner.
Historical Notes: Although Colombia has had, for the most part, a peaceful relation with its neighbor countries, a few moments of tensión have occurred time to time. The lack of definition of borders during the colonial period was inherited to the new republics formed during the nineteenth century. Except for a few armed conflicts, most of the disagreements over limits have been resolved through diplomacy. This pamphlet is a source for analyzing the long process of negotiation by which the Colombian and Venezuelan governments have tried to set their limits. (See for example: LaRosa, Michael and Germán Mejía. Colombia: a Concise Contemporary History. Lanham: Rowman and Littlefield, 2012).
Donor Notes: Another effort at arriving at a fair boundary with neighboring Venezuela, the 10th such effort since 1833, as its author notes. - J.L.H.
