Summary: An account of the different public works that the Colombian governments conducted since 1950. Includes the budget and progress of some of the works started as a result of the outburst of violence since 1948.
Historical Notes: Beginning in 1948, and extending over the next two decades, Colombia experienced one of the most obscure passages in its history. The assassination of Jorge Eliecer Gaitán unleashed several waves of violence, related to political factionalism, religious and economic differences. This two-decade outburst of bloodshed, know simply as La Violencia, caused the death of over 200,000 people and displacement of millions and left a long-lasting image about Colombia. However, since very early Colombians and the Colombian government tried to overcome this serious crisis. This pamphlet is an important source to understand some of the measures that the state took in order to put the country again on the right track.
Donor Notes: A review of the various public works started by the Laureano Gómez/ Urdaneta- Arbeláez regimes since 1950. - J.L.H.
