Historical Notes: This document presents an interesting example of early religious imprints that intertwined themes of religion and gender in the ecclesiastical institutions in Colombia. In the text, "V.S.M.," published in 1785, Maria Magdalena Caycedo Priora discusses progress and the dispersal of royal funds to the establishment of teaching convents in Santa Fe. Caycedo was the first prioress at the Convento de la Enzenanza, or the Convent of Teaching, in Santa Fe and a significant figure in women’s education in convents.
